The Chinese Star series, which primarily targets the fuel vehicle market, is experiencing contrary growth, and Geely has made a bold move by launching the Dongfang Yao.

In the ancient capital Xi'an, which represents the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty, Geely Automobile held a spectacular launch event that showcased the fusion of modern technology with Chinese culture, as well as Eastern aesthetics with the automotive industry. They announced that their combustion engine segment has achieved growth against the trend this year, reaffirming their determination to maintain their advantages in combustion vehicle performance.

On October 7, the second season of the Cultural Tourism China Exploration Program and the launch event for the China Star dual flagship models took place at the Datang Furong Garden in Xi'an, where Geely officially launched the China Star Dongfang Yao.

The Dongfang Yao model of the Xingrui is available in five configurations, featuring a 1.5TD+7DCT and a 2.0TD+8AT, with an official price range of 99,700 to 138,700 RMB; the Xingyue L introduces two new configurations in the Dongfang Yao series on top of the existing models, with an official price range of 147,700 to 179,700 RMB.

As a disruptor in the family sedan segment, the Xingrui Dongfang Yao offers comprehensive luxury upgrades in terms of power, intelligence, and comfort.

For example, it is equipped with a powerful 2.0TD high-power engine paired with an 8AT transmission, allowing the Xingrui Dongfang Yao to reach a maximum power output of 175 kW and peak torque of 350 N·m, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds. In terms of intelligent features, the Xingrui Dongfang Yao introduces the user-friendly Flyme Auto infotainment system, complete with a 14.6-inch high-definition central touchscreen and a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument panel.

The other flagship model, the Xingyue L, also features an upgraded Dongfang Yao version that enhances driving control, cabin technology, and safety.

From the perspective of cabin experience, the IMAX panoramic triple screen combined with the Galaxy OS 2.0 system enhances the technological feel of the cabin. New features such as a massaging driver’s seat with neck pillow speakers, a one-touch reclining passenger seat that transforms into a royal seat, and electrically adjustable rear seats with a tilt range of 30°-40° further boost passenger comfort.

In fact, as the automotive industry shifts towards new energy, it is increasingly rare for companies like Geely to hold large-scale launch events for combustion vehicles, clearly demonstrating Geely's commitment to the combustion vehicle market.

Moreover, it is worth noting that Geely's China Star series, which focuses on combustion vehicles, has performed exceptionally well this year despite the trends.

From January to September, the sales of Xingrui increased by 39%, while Xingyue L saw growth of 43%. Currently, the Xingyue L holds the title of the highest-selling fuel SUV across all brands, while the Xingrui sedan ranks as the top-selling fuel sedan from Chinese brands and is among the top five models in the entire sedan market.

“Geely still holds the number one position among Chinese brands in the fuel vehicle market,” stated Geely executives when questioned about their continued focus on combustion vehicles. “The fuel vehicle segment has always been a market where we maintain an edge, so why would we abandon it?”

According to the data, from January to September this year, the market share for combustion vehicles remains at 55%. Given that China’s automotive market sees yearly sales of over 20 million vehicles, the demand for combustion vehicles is still substantial.

Within the industry, Geely not only has leading technology and product capabilities for fuel vehicles but also boasts a customer base of 16 million. Therefore, Geely executives have stated that regarding the future development of the fuel vehicle market, Geely “will not exit but is focusing.” Previously, Geely offered many types of fuel vehicles with a wide variety of models. Now they plan to categorize Geely's fuel vehicles into four series: Xing, Bo, Ao, and Bin, to sharpen their focus.

“We aim to develop Geely fuel vehicles from generation to generation, ensuring that each series achieves the No.1 position.” This is how Geely executives expressed their commitment.
