To celebrate the debut of the all-new all-electric Macan, Porsche's classic sports cars took to the track to showcase their brilliance.

Can the classic cars stored in the Porsche Museum still be driven?

On November 22, Porsche offered racing enthusiasts an unparalleled track driving experience — the launch of the “Porsche Legacy” event, where classic cars that were specially transported from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, hit the Shanghai International Circuit.

This event was not just an opportunity to experience the track; it was also a time-traveling celebration of sports cars. From the nighttime showcase of the cars on the track to the thrilling daytime drive, participants had the chance to closely observe those legendary models that once made history, engaging in a dialogue between the classics and the future.

The Porsche Legacy—Nighttime Track Showcase

The classic sports cars from the Porsche Museum were undoubtedly the soul of this event. They included the original 911, the timeless legend of the sports car world, the 901; and the legendary rally car 959 Paris Dakar, which won the Paris-Dakar Rally and could travel 14,000 kilometers across the deserts and plains of Africa.

The supercar 911 Carrera GT, renowned for its extraordinary performance and design, has been a dream car for many enthusiasts; the 918 Spyder, a plug-in hybrid supercar, exemplifies Porsche’s foresight into the demands of the next decade; and for racing fans, the three-time Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race champion car 919 (2017) is undoubtedly a symbol of faith.

The classic cars from the Porsche Museum represent not only the brand's history but also the pinnacle of sports car design and performance. These legendary vehicles, which are normally admired in silence within the museum, can still zip around the track, embodying Porsche’s spirit of sports cars at this moment.

Whether in the past or the future, Porsche has always been closely linked to the racetrack, and this event highlighted by the all-new pure electric Macan (including the all-new pure electric Macan 4 and Macan Turbo) is no exception.

This track event was also the debut test drive experience for the all-new pure electric Macan in China, featuring a variety of activities such as gymkhana, drifting, braking challenges, track exploration, and speed lap time trials.

Porsche China President and CEO, Pan Lichi, stated, “Performance is a holistic concept for Porsche, encompassing acceleration, top speed, braking, cornering, and overall vehicle dynamics. This event on the track allowed participants to experience the pure driving sensations of the all-new pure electric Macan in all dimensions.”

All-new pure electric Macan rally experience

The pure sports car driving performance of the all-new pure electric Macan on the track was astonishing. The Porsche Active Suspension Management system (PASM), standard in the Chinese market and equipped with electronic damping control, can be combined with either steel or air suspension. The dual-valve technology greatly expands the adjustable range between performance and comfort. When switched to the “offroad” driving mode, a virtual central differential lock limits the differential between the front and rear axles, offering an unparalleled off-road rally experience. The rear-axle steering system (standard in Turbo models) can have a steering angle of up to ±5 degrees, reducing the turning diameter of the pure electric Macan by one meter, perfectly accommodating the agile turning requirements of gymkhana; the electronic Porsche Traction Control Management system (ePTM) operates five times faster than traditional four-wheel drive systems, with a response time of 10 milliseconds, distributing power based on the selected driving mode. Moreover, the Turbo model is equipped with an upgraded version of Porsche's Torque Vectoring System (PTV Plus), and this rear-axle electronic differential lock enhances traction, stability, and lateral dynamic performance when drifting on the track; kinetic energy recovery can recover up to 98% of braking energy, working seamlessly with hydraulic brakes, allowing drivers to handle brake challenges with ease.

Jörg Kerner, Vice President of the Macan product line, remarked, “Thanks to the sporty seating position, low center of gravity design, and exhilarating driving dynamics and steering precision, the all-new pure electric Macan can deliver a true sports car experience on the track.”

Additionally, the all-new pure electric Macan boasts a maximum wheel size of 22 inches, with a narrow front and wide rear tire configuration. The wheelbase measures 2893 mm, an increase of 86 mm compared to previous models. The distinctive Porsche flying line combined with the flat rear window creates a harmonious overall design, while the Porsche Active Aerodynamics system (PAA) and drag coefficient as low as 0.25 make it one of the most aerodynamically sleek SUVs on the market.

New Taycan track experience

During the event, Porsche also showcased the new Taycan and new Cayenne, allowing car enthusiasts to deeply experience the brand's core that remains unchanged from the era of internal combustion engines to the electrification era, conveying Porsche's unique sports car culture. As the slogan on the track says, “Anyone can challenge the track, but only a few can create legends.”

The all-new pure electric Macan offers a genuine sports car experience on the track

The all-new pure electric Macan 4 and Macan Turbo are set to be delivered to dealerships by the end of November. To lower the barriers to purchasing, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Porsche's electric models in the market, Porsche Finance Leasing Co., Ltd. has launched a series of limited-time promotional policies for the all-new pure electric Macan, including a minimum down payment of 10% and a three-year residual value promise of up to 58% of the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Additionally, after-sales service for pure electric models has been comprehensively upgraded, offering six years/six maintenance services with assurance, along with vehicle pickup and delivery, and unlimited roadside assistance and accident rescue, alleviating customers' concerns during the car ownership experience.
