
At 12:35 on June 8, the official Weibo account of the Traffic Police Detachment of the Haikou Municipal Public Security Bureau of Hainan Province @Coconut City Traffic Police reported the incident of "Xiaomi SU7 rushed out of the parking lot, causing 1 death and 3 injuries".
The report stated that at around 7:35 am on June 7, a car collided with two electric vehicles when driving out of the gate of Chunjiang No. 1 Community on Meiyuan Road, resulting in one death on the spot and three people injured to varying degrees (one of them was hospitalized for treatment and was not in danger of life, and two people did not need hospitalization and have returned home).
After preliminary investigation, the accident was caused by the improper operation of the car driver (drunk driving or drug driving has been ruled out). The driver has been detained by the police in accordance with the law on suspicion of traffic accident. The case is under further investigation.
In response to this news, a Xiaomi spokesperson released a statement on Weibo at 13:53 on June 7:
1. After the relevant accident occurred, we intervened immediately and are actively cooperating with the police to conduct inspections and surveys.
2. After cooperating with the police to retrieve the vehicle's backend data, we found that the vehicle was in normal condition at the time of the accident, including the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal. We have provided the traffic police with the vehicle data report at the time of the accident, and will actively cooperate with the police in the investigation. If there are any relevant results, we will disclose them in a timely manner.
3. The relevant media, without understanding the facts and data, rashly described the incident with words such as "vehicle out of control" and "brake failure", which are seriously inaccurate.
