With the release of the latest list of applications submitted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the appearance information of the new SAIC Audi A5L was also officially announced.
As the fourth new car to be launched by SAIC Audi, the new SAIC Audi A5L is not only Audi's first model to achieve "killing two birds with one stone" in Audi North and South, but also the first joint venture fuel model in China equipped with Huawei Intelligent Driving. Therefore, it has attracted a lot of attention as soon as it was unveiled.
The side lines are slender and stretched
The new SAIC Audi A5L adopts a Sportback body structure, which is a hatchback structure. The overall shape is designed by German designer Mr. Jakob Hirzel (the designer of the second-generation Audi A5). Compared with the traditional three-box shape, the new SAIC Audi A5L has a larger air intake grille and larger fog lamp area vents. The overall shape is closer to the Audi RS5, showing a stronger sporty atmosphere. The front face has a through-style headlight group, a luminous four-ring logo, and LED daytime running lights that support a variety of light shapes. While maintaining the high-standard standards of the "lighting factory", it also emphasizes the technological sense of the entire vehicle.
The fastback shape and the upturned ducktail that blends in with the body are quite eye-catching.
The new car has a length, width and height of 4903/1883/1427mm and a wheelbase of 2922mm, which are 74mm and 22mm longer than the overseas version, respectively, while the wheelbase and width-to-height ratios are the same as the overseas version of the A5. The new car is equipped with semi-hidden door handles and retains frameless doors and a hatchback tailgate, further enhancing the sportiness of the vehicle.
In terms of power, the new car built on the PPC platform will be equipped with the new EA888 Evo5 engine. As the fifth-generation EA888 engine, the biggest change this time is the addition of VTG variable-section turbocharging and MHEV Plus 48V mild hybrid system. Among them, VTG technology can achieve better engine power response by freely adjusting the effective area of the blades, effectively reducing turbo lag and improving the power of the rear stage.
Whether it is the headlights or the taillights, the complex and highly recognizable lighting design is worthy of the name of "Lighting Factory"
The MHEV Plus 48V mild hybrid system not only reduces vehicle fuel consumption, but also enhances power performance. In addition to the 48V starter motor, the system adds a PTG motor integrated in the gearbox to assist the engine in outputting power and recovering kinetic energy. According to official sources, its output power can reach 18kW, and the maximum kinetic energy recovery power is 25kW, which effectively enhances the vehicle's power performance.
Looking from the front, the new SAIC Audi A5L is full of sensors. There are four radars on the bumper alone, and three visual cameras at the highest point in the center of the front windshield.
In addition to its styling and power, the most anticipated feature of the new SAIC Audi A5L is that it is equipped with Huawei's intelligent driving solution, which includes 2 laser radars, 11 high-definition cameras, 6 millimeter-wave radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors, supporting high-level intelligent driving assistance on elevated roads, highways and urban areas. The ability to access Huawei's intelligent driving solution is largely due to the high integration, high scalability and flexible iteration capabilities provided by Audi's new PPC platform's new electronic architecture E³ 1.2 with distributed domain control.
Embedded laser radars are located on both sides of the front bumper
It is also worth mentioning that the new SAIC Audi A5L uses an embedded laser radar. This design means that the new car does not have "horns" on the roof, maintaining the integrity of the vehicle's appearance.
