"Modern technology is iterating so fast, are you anxious?"
On March 26, the 2025 BMW China Innovation Day was held at the BMW Beijing Research Center. The voice assistant that appeared on the big screen asked this question, kicking off the BMW China team's demonstration of the leapfrog evolution of the "new generation" smart cockpit, smart driving control and AI integration.
The event on that day showcased BMW's two core intelligent technology clusters in depth for the first time - the groundbreaking intelligent cockpit and the driving control super brain Heart of Joy. They represent BMW's differentiated innovation route focusing on core areas of strength.
Among them, BMW's new generation super-sensing intelligent cockpit is ready to reshape the car driving experience with epoch-making human-computer interaction.

BMW believes that innovation is not the accumulation of technology, but the creation of user value in a way that is suitable and only suitable for BMW. Therefore, in the design of the user interface, BMW applied the concept of "visual cone" in the cockpit for the first time to conform to the subconscious driving sight design and reduce the switching time and frequency of visual focus. According to the "visual cone" theory, the interactive information in the cockpit is placed in layers, the core driving information is placed in the central field of vision, and the entertainment and comfort functions are distributed in the peripheral field of vision at the same time, ensuring that the right information appears on the right interface at the right time, truly realizing "eyes on the road, hands on the steering wheel".
Thanks to the “disappearance” of the traditional instrument panel, BMW has also innovatively brought a longitudinal double-spoke steering wheel, making the “three-nine-point” grip feel more fitting, allowing for extreme driving without letting go of the car.
The industry's first panoramic horizon display uses BMW's self-developed ultra-close-range projection head-up display technology to replace the traditional instrument panel. It can project information onto the black coating on the bottom of the patented nano-coated windshield, providing a large-area, 4K-level ultra-clear, long-range viewing angle, and a display effect that is not affected by polarized sunglasses.
It is worth mentioning that the BMW Group attaches great importance to the Chinese market. China is the only country outside of Germany where it has established the SkyLab Human-Machine Interaction User Experience Research Center. In the BMW new-generation operating system X equipped in the new-generation models, the SkyLab China design team has optimized nearly 100 detailed functions locally, and every interface is beautiful for China. For example, the "Lyrics Viewing on the Eye Horizon Large Screen" function is specially created for Chinese users, allowing users to understand the beauty of the lyrics anytime and anywhere while enjoying the music.
BMW's first "Heart of Joy" is an intelligent driving control integrated system developed by the BMW Group for the new generation of models. Through high integration and intelligent design, it combines the two domains of power and chassis control for the first time, making the core sub-functions such as power transmission, braking, charging, energy recovery and steering efficiently integrated. The new digital neural network built by the new wiring harness system and high-speed data transmission technology makes the decision link delay less than 1 millisecond, and the information processing speed is 10 times faster than the previous system, realizing the most efficient overall thinking and processing of the vehicle's overall dynamic driving. The self-developed BMW Dynamic Performance Control (DPC) used for the first time is a software that condenses BMW's more than a century of technological accumulation in the field of driving dynamics. Through the coordination of the "Heart of Joy" and the precisely adjusted BMW Dynamic Performance Control software, the new generation of models can complete the calculation of all driving dynamic functions with unprecedented speed and accuracy, and provide drivers with a smoother control experience in various driving scenarios.
At this point, let's go back to the question at the beginning. It is not difficult to find that the way BMW overcomes anxiety is to always stand at the forefront of technology. As Gao Xiang, President and CEO of BMW Group Greater China, said: "As a comprehensive technology company, BMW is always at the forefront of innovation. The new generation is the culmination of BMW's innovative technologies for the future, which interprets BMW's unique innovation concept. Focusing on three dimensions, BMW will continue to invest in core areas, actively embrace artificial intelligence, and continue to work with technology partners to open up innovation and achieve a leap in driving pleasure."

It is reported that the new generation of super-sensing intelligent cockpit will be unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in April this year and will be installed on the new generation of BMW models to be launched next year. At the same time, the new generation of models will be the first to be equipped with the BMW Group's new generation of software architecture, which is installed on the new electronic and electrical architecture.
On the same day of BMW Innovation Day, BMW and Alibaba jointly announced to deepen their strategic cooperation in China to accelerate the deployment of AI big language models in cars. Based on the world's leading Tongyi big model and Zebra Yuanshen AI, the new BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant uses the BMW customized AI engine jointly developed by the two parties, and will be first installed in the new generation of BMW models produced in China in 2026.
For the new generation of models, the R&D team is developing more than a thousand software modules, more than 20GB of software volume and more than 500 million lines of code, which will eventually be integrated into the vehicle's "super brain" and electronic and electrical architecture. The development of vehicle software relies on diversified tools that support generative AI, and the development speed and quality have been significantly improved. It supports up to 75,000 virtual CPUs and can accommodate more than 10,000 developers to work together. During the peak period, 200,000 software builds are completed in a single day.
Starting from the launch of the first new generation model, BMW will fully introduce the powerful "super brain" and the new electronic and electrical architecture and software platform into all future models, covering all market segments and power types.
