On June 9, the General Administration of Customs released the latest figures on China’s vehicle trade. In May 2025, the country exported 695,000 vehicles; cumulative exports from January to May reached 2.853 million, up 16.8 percent year on year.
Imports moved in the opposite direction. China brought in 47,000 vehicles in May 2025, and cumulative imports for January to May totaled 182,000—down 32.8 percent from a year earlier.
The split picture is clear from the customs data: outbound shipments continued to grow over the first five months, while inbound automobile volumes contracted sharply over the same period.
