On the evening of November 11, General Motors announced significant leadership changes to support the continued recovery of its business in the Chinese market and promote global export growth.
It is reported that, effective December 1st, Steve Hill, the current Senior Vice President of General Motors and President of General Motors China, will assume the newly created position of Senior Vice President of Global Export and Retail Innovation. He will leverage General Motors' global manufacturing footprint, strong brand, and distribution channels worldwide to accelerate export growth.
John Roth, the current global vice president of Cadillac, will succeed Siwen He as senior vice president of General Motors and president of General Motors China.

During his long tenure at General Motors, He Siwen held several leadership positions in global marketing, sales, and after-sales service, including Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing for the United States, and Vice President of Global Customer Care and After-Sales Service.
After becoming president of GM China in June 2024, he spearheaded a series of business restructurings, leading the company to achieve profitability in the Chinese market for four consecutive quarters and becoming the only global automaker to achieve market share growth this year.
“He Siwen has a deep understanding of our global operations and extensive experience in leading critical sales, marketing and after-sales service, which will be key factors for his success in his new role,” said Rory Harvey, executive vice president and president of global markets at General Motors.
Roth joined General Motors in 1991, holding various positions in sales and marketing departments both at the front lines and headquarters. Since June 2023, Roth has led Cadillac to regain its reputation as the "world's standard," becoming the fastest-growing luxury brand and the top-selling luxury electric vehicle brand. During his tenure, Cadillac successfully entered Formula 1 racing, advanced its global strategy, and built a highly sought-after luxury product portfolio.
Throughout his career, Roth's extensive experience in sales, advertising, operations, marketing, and global markets will further enhance General Motors' market position in China.
Rory Harvey stated, "John will work closely with our joint venture partners and is the best person to lead GM to sustainable development in China." Roth added, "China is one of the most dynamic and competitive markets in the world. I look forward to working with the GM China team and our joint venture partners to continue driving business transformation and creating a better future."
