According to Reuters, the Spanish government and chief negotiator EV Motors said on Tuesday that they were close to reaching an agreement with China's Chery Automobile Co., which would start producing cars in Spain, making Spain Chery's first production base in Europe.
Chery has not yet responded to the above news.

On March 10, 2024, Zhujiaqiao Port Area of Wuhu Port of Anhui Port Group will export Chery automobiles overseas.
According to foreign media reports, the focus of the talks between the two sides is that Chery will produce cars at the Spanish plant of Japanese automaker Nissan. The plant will be closed in 2021. If Chery produces here, it can help solve at least 1,600 jobs in the local area.
In addition to Spain, Reuters reported in March that Chery also held talks with the Italian government about investing in and building a factory in the country, but received little feedback.
Faced with fierce competition and slowing growth in the domestic market, more and more Chinese automakers are choosing to go overseas as a second curve of growth.
According to foreign media reports, Chery started selling cars in Spain earlier this year, and will sell them in the UK and Poland by the end of 2024, and will then enter other major European markets.
