On the eve of the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Volkswagen Group showcased a number of heavyweight models at the "Volkswagen Group Media Night", marking the official start of its "delivery mode" for strategic results in China.

At the event, Volkswagen made its global debut with three concept models designed specifically for Chinese customers: ID. ERA, ID. EVO and ID. AURA. These models not only demonstrate Volkswagen's innovative strength in the field of new energy, but also meet Chinese consumers' high-quality demands for smart connected cars through a new design language and innovative technology.

Among them, ID. ERA, as a full-size extended-range SUV, has an eye-catching design and a comprehensive endurance of over 1,000 kilometers, and is designed specifically for long-distance travel.

With its dynamic and avant-garde appearance and exquisite interior design, ID. EVO showcases the Volkswagen brand's new look in the pure electric SUV field.

ID. AURA is Volkswagen's first compact car built specifically for China based on the CMP platform and CEA electronic and electrical architecture. With its advanced driving assistance system and highly expressive design, it brings users a highly competitive new choice.

The Audi brand also brought two models that made their global debut - the new pure electric model A6L e-tron based on the PPE platform and the first mass-produced model of the new AUDI brand, the Audi E5 Sportback. The wheelbase of the A6L e-tron is 132 mm longer than that of the overseas version, and it is equipped with the industry-leading advanced combined driving assistance system, with a maximum range of 770 kilometers.

The Audi E5 Sportback is a four-door pure electric coupe designed for the new generation of users who pursue luxury quality and technological trends. Its body size combines dynamic proportions and elegant posture. It offers four power combinations and is equipped with rear-wheel drive and Audi's iconic quattro four-wheel drive options. The maximum output power is up to 579 kilowatts, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers in just 3.4 seconds.
In addition, Porsche's new 911 GT3, Bentley's new Continental GT Convertible Yado, Lamborghini Temerario, and Ducati Multistrada V4 S and Panigale V4 S motorcycles were also unveiled at the event, demonstrating the rich diversity and comprehensive coverage of Volkswagen Group's product lineup in China.

As another highlight of the event, the Volkswagen Group officially released an advanced driver assistance system tailored for China's complex and diverse road conditions. The system was developed by CARIAD, a software company under the group, and CARIZON, a joint venture of Horizon. It has the ability to learn autonomously and can provide drivers with a highly anthropomorphic, multi-scenario, and safety-first driving assistance experience. It is planned to be first installed in a new Volkswagen brand model for the Chinese market this year, and gradually applied to more mainstream compact segment models.

Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group, said: "China is a leader in the technological transformation of the global automotive industry. Volkswagen Group is vigorously participating in and promoting this process. With the new generation of intelligent connected vehicles, we are fully integrated into the digital and intelligent ecosystem of Chinese customers. This Shanghai Auto Show marks another solid step towards becoming a 'global automotive technology leader'."

Berard, managing director of Volkswagen Group's China business and chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group (China), also said: "By firmly implementing the 'In China, for China' strategy, we have taken an advantageous position in the era of intelligent connected vehicles."
Looking ahead, Volkswagen Group will continue to increase investment and innovation in China, and will launch more than 20 new energy vehicles by 2027, including pure electric, plug-in hybrid and extended-range models. By 2030, the group's brands will offer about 30 pure electric models in China. These models will not only further enrich Volkswagen Group's product lineup in China, but will also help the group achieve sustainable development and long-term success in the Chinese market.
