CCTV news program "Top Laboratory" recently visited the Great Wall Motors Technology Center. Wei Jianjun, chairman of Great Wall Motors, emphasized in a conversation with host Dong Qian: "Core technology must be in our own hands."
For example, the transmission is a core component of a car, and Great Wall Motors is the first brand in China to develop a transverse 9DCT transmission. It is also the only vehicle manufacturer that currently masters the independent research and development technology of longitudinal 9AT and 9HAT transmissions.
Wei Jianjun recalled in the dialogue: "In the early years, China's automobile industry had weak technical reserves and often adopted the strategy of exchanging market for technology." Therefore, Great Wall Motors invested heavily in R&D, verification, and manufacturing, and introduced advanced equipment. He revealed that the Great Wall Motors Technology Center, which was put into use in 2014, cost 5 billion yuan at the time, and now it seems to be of great value in improving overall strength.
In response to Dong Qian's question about "how to measure corporate value", Wei Jianjun said: "The automobile industry is a symbol of national strength and manufacturing level. Enterprises cannot only look at profits, but also at what value we create for users and what positive contributions we make to the country. Great Wall Motors must adhere to long-termism and bottom-line thinking in order to move forward steadily."
Through the lens of "Top Laboratory", Great Wall Motor Technical Center showcases multiple extreme testing sites, from tests simulating extreme climate conditions in the environmental wind tunnel laboratory, to comprehensive evaluation of vehicle performance in the high-altitude laboratory, to in-depth research and development of human-computer interaction technology in the intelligent interaction laboratory.
Great Wall Motors' environmental wind tunnel laboratory can simulate extreme temperature environments ranging from -40°C to 60°C, and relative humidity ranging from 5% to 95%, basically covering the most extreme vehicle use environments that humans can encounter. Here, the new Blue Mountain Intelligent Driving System experienced a night of ice test, but when the host broke the ice and opened the car door, all functions of the vehicle were still normal, and even a can of 50°C coffee could be taken out of the car refrigerator.
It is reported that every new model of Great Wall Motors must undergo at least 20 days of rigorous testing in this laboratory before it is launched on the market.
The program also tested the smart driving performance of the new Blue Mountain model in Beijing's Guozijian Hutong, where the roads are narrow and there are many tourists. Its precise obstacle recognition and path planning capabilities were impressive.
